Vibram Five Fingers
A few months ago, I asked for feedback in the form of a survey. Several people suggested I start tapping my contacts in the running industry for some interviews. It’s been a slow process, but here’s the first- an interview with Vibram USA president Tony Post.
Vibram, as many of you know, has been at the forefront of the barefoot and minimalist shoe movement. Tony has a fascinating vision for the future of minimalism, which he […]
I’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Five Fingers. When I started barefoot running, they did not exist. My minimalist shoes consisted of a collection of ill-fitting aqua socks. When Barefoot Ted first wrote about them back in 2006 or so, I immediately bought a pair- black KSOs.
The shoes were awesome! The fit was far superior to the aqua socks and they lasted more than 100 miles. I wore them for […]
I’ve written extensively about this topic in the past. The vast majority of people that have tried any Vibram-soled minimalist shoes is aware of one serious drawback: If worn without socks, they develop an indescribable funk.
I have tried a ton of products to eliminate the funk. Some work pretty well. Others not so much. A few months ago, Steve Schapow sent me some Arxodos, an odor-elimination spray that works freakishly well on sports equipment. Having […]
One run, 32°, slush-covered asphalt.
It was quite possibly the worst conditions possible for shoe testing. It did allow me to get a great first impression of the Vibram Five Fingers Komodos. Keep in mind, these comments are just my opinions based on my shoe preference.
Traction on asphalt, wet or dry, was shockingly good. They almost felt sticky.
The shoes fared pretty well without socks. My feet were soaked the entire run. […]
Vibram Five Fingers Very Premature Review
Yes, yes, I know I vowed to abandon Vibram awhile ago. I just couldn’t resist the urge to try out their new Komodos. They look pretty cool, which was one of the reasons I was tempted. The color scheme matches my school’s colors, so I plan to wear these to work on occasion. Gotta have school spirit!
Anyway, here are some very preliminary thoughts:
I think these […]
You’ve experienced the situation. You’re running along your favorite trail. You see an attractive member of the opposite sex sitting on a bench leafing through a magazine. The sunlight is striking her just right, giving her a radiance that can only be described as angelic.
As she sips her caramel mochacinno, you approach with supreme confidence, knowing your blithe sense of humor will win her over. You approach the bench. In a show of peacock-like exhibiting, you […]
After I posted my review of Merrell’s Trail Glove, I was inundated with questions. The most common- how wide are the shoes? Since a simple measurement may not be too informative, I took a topside picture of most of my shoe collection. Enjoy!
[Edit- check out Pete Larson of runblogger.com… he just received a pair of Trail Gloves and will be reviewing them shortly]
Vibram, I’m sorry. It’s me, not you. Really. We had some good times. I just think we’re heading in different directions. I mean, I really appreciate everything you’ve done. For a few years, you were the one. You captured my heart. But then you changed. You started getting… you know… bigger. You started adorning yourself a little to much. I liked you when you were simple. You were everything I needed and wanted. Now… I’m not so sure. […]
