Barefoot Runners Society Update and West Coast Tour

Feb 25, 2012 | 14 Comments

Here’s an update on the state of the Barefoot Runners Society.  The team that has been managing the site and organization are in the process of setting up the new site.  There are two significant hurdles:

The old hosting software (Drupal) sucked, which was a frequent complaint.  Unfortunately it is difficult to move anything from Drupal (further demonstrating its suckiness quotient).  It was important to everyone to preserve all member forum and blog posts.  I was originally in favor […]

Jan 13, 2012 | 38 Comments

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been discussing the future of barefoot running and proposing methods we could use to reach an audience that would be receptive to our message, but won’t have access to us.  Here’s a brief summary:

Minimalist “barefoot” shoe sales are on the rise.  I’m defining these shoes as any shoe that allows the same running form as if you were barefoot.  Vague, I know, but the exact operational definition is irrelevant.  I […]

Barefoot Notes from the Road

Aug 23, 2011 | 10 Comments

Since we’ve been on the road, it’s been a little difficult to find time to write about our adventures.  Here are some of the highlights from the last few weeks:

We crewed and paced for our friend Jeremiah Cataldo at the Burning River 100 miler.  He finished in a blistering  few minutes over 20 hours.
Vertical Runner, Ohio’s premiere running store and the place that hosted our local clinic, is offering 20% off all Merrell shoes until August […]

ABC’s of Barefoot Running

Aug 19, 2011 | 6 Comments

Over the last few months, Merrell and I have been working on a new barefoot/minimalist shoe running format.  The goal of the new format was simple:

Create a method of teaching barefoot running that was simple and easy for the average person to share with others.

The result: BareForm.

We teach BareForm as the “ABC’s” of barefoot running.  Here’s the run-down:

A = Align Posture.  We have people interlock their fingers and stretch them over their […]

The Future of Barefoot Running: An Increasing Need for Simplicity

Jul 23, 2011 | 21 Comments

Things are a’ changin!’ As the barefoot/minimalist shoe running movement matures and expands, several important things are happening which will invariably shape the future.

First, the type of person experimenting with natural running is changing. Back in the day, the early adopters spent considerable time doing research to master the skills required to successfully transition. Today’s new barefoot/minimalist shoe runner (the beginnings of the early majority) isn’t as concerned with expensive research. They rarely seek out […]
