Merrell’s Bare Access 2 is an update to the popular Bare Access released last year. i reviewed them here:
I used that particular shoe for a good portion of the Across the Years 72 hour race and all of the Fifth Third Riverbank Run 25k. The cushioning didn’t affect my gait nearly as much as I expected. The biggest issue I had was the top of the heel counter. […]
I’m always excited to test a first shoe from new companies. Skora was founded by David Sypniewski a few years ago. He solicited a lot of feedback when designing his first lineup, which I appreciated. At the time, the minimalist market was quite bare. [see what I did there]
Anyway, David had a great vision. He understood an important fundamental- the shoe shouldn’t interfere with your running form. The idea is widely accepted in minimalist circles, but was quite revolutionary […]
Officially, the Merrell Flux Glove is designed as a training shoe. It’s designed on the Road Glove outsole, but with a slightly more structured upper to handle lateral cutting movements. Think high intensity interval training. While the shoe excels as a training shoe, I found it to be the single most versatile minimalist shoe I’ve found to date.
I received the shoe right before we left the mountains of Colorado, brought it with […]
The Merrell Mix Master Aeroblock (MMAB) is similar to the Mix Master 2 (MM2) with a different upper. This shoe was one of three pairs I brought along for the grueling TransRockies six day stage race in Colorado (the others were two pairs of Merrell Trail Gloves). Needless to say, the shoes were tested in extreme conditions.
Aesthetically, I prefer the Aeroblocks to the Mix Master 2’s, which I’ve also tested […]
How to carry water- it’s one of the biggest logistical issues ultrarunners face. Some people (including me) prefer handheld water bottles. Others prefer hydration packs with bladders. Still others prefer a pack that carries bottles.
The Simple Hydration water bottle is a versatile 13 ounce bottle that could feasibly work with any of these solutions. How? The bottle has a unique “hook” shape that allows the bottle to be carried in places that are impossible with a traditional bottle.
This may be the longest period I’ve even tested a pair of shoes before writing a review… about six months.
When I first tried the Altra Adams, I hated them. They seemed like expensive aqua socks. My first sockless run resulted in serious cuts from internal seams. The closure system was funky.
I just couldn’t write the review, though.
There was something about the shoes that made me hold […]
I’ve been on a VERY long quest to find an ideal mountain running shoe. My standard trail running shoe, Merrell’s Trail Glove, performs like a champ in 90% of the conditions I encounter on my travels. However, that remaining 10% has been a continuous problem. I needed a shoe that provided a little more protection but didn’t interfere with running gait. The shoe had to be lightweight as I would be using it for […]
