Trail Running and Ultramarathon Book is Finished!

Mar 28, 2013 | One Comment

I finished up the expanded and edited version of “Never Wipe Your Ass with a Squirrel: A trail running, ultramarathon, and wilderness survival guide for weird folks.“I’ve accomplished my goal of producing the least-serious-but-still-exceedingly-useful trail and ultra book in existence!

I added significantly more content than the original version, and my editing team did a wonderful job of eliminating the grammar and other errors. New table of contents can be found at the bottom of this post.

New Year’s Resolution: Change the World

Dec 26, 2012 | 5 Comments

The end of the year always brings about the opportunity to reflect on the past year and plan for the next. As you can probably tell by the tone of my last few posts here and over at The Sexpressionists, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately. Our traveling journey over the previous year and a half resulted in a ton of amazing experiences and some great personal growth. We’re enjoying our “down” time right now, but Read More...

Nov 27, 2012 | One Comment

After several delays, I’m finally ready to begin the BRUcrew workout group! The process of getting settled in San Diego took longer than expected, and the Chile trip took some preparation. All that has passed, and I’m ready to begin!

The first group will meet this Thursday (November 29th) at 5:30am at Los Penasquitos Park in San Diego. This workout will be completely free; I’m working out the logistics of the workout group. I was originally only Read More...

Last Minute Grindstone Preparation, Clinic in North Carolina!

Oct 4, 2012 | 3 Comments

I’ll be starting the Grindstone 100 miler tomorrow evening at 6pm in Swoope, Virginia. It’ll be my second attempt at the race after DNFing last year. My preparation has improved dramatically. Last year, my training went something like this:

I ran Western States toward the end of June. My lone run over 12 miles was a road marathon the week before Grindstone (Freedom’s Run in West Virginia). My average weekly mileage rarely surpassed 20 miles.
I didn’t run any technical Read More...

Grindstone 100 Miler Preparation

Sep 21, 2012 | 3 Comments

In about three weeks, I’ll be attempting the Grindstone 100 miler in Swoope, VA for the second time. The first time around, I DNFed around the half way point. It was an abysmal failure, but a great learning experience. My preparation for this attempt feels much better.

Last year, I was overly confident based on my positive experiences at Western States. This was my thought process immediately before the race:
