Micah True is Missing
[Update- Friday March 30, 8:04am pst]- From Luis Escobar’s Facebook status update:
Friday, 3/30 7:37am Silver City, NM Like so many of you, I consider Micah to be my friend. Those of you who know him know that is enjoys his privacy. I would never do or say anything to disrespect that. On the other hand, he has such a large following and I know that you are all sincerely concern about him. With that in mind, I will do my best to keep you informed as we move closer to finding Caballo.

Thursday march 29, 5:00pm pst- Micah True (aka Caballo Blanco from McDougall’s ‘Born to Run’) is missing in the New Mexico wilderness. I don’t know Micah personally, but have been virtual Facebook friends for some time. Micah’s story was actually one of the things that motivated Shelly and I to quit our jobs and follow our passions.
The details of his disappearance are ominous:
Even though I don’t know him personally, I’m still very worried. I find myself fretting over the scary details (lone runner missing for multiple days with no supplies in a sub-freezing rugged environment) while at the same time clinging to possible bright spot (the dude has extensive experience surviving in the wilds).
I sincerely hope he’s safely returned. Keep Micah in your thoughts. If you happen to live in the Gila/ Silver City/ Las Cruces area, please consider helping out with any search efforts. [edit- Search and rescue is requesting volunteers be experienced ultrarunners or wilderness experts and be self-sufficient (food, water, radio communication, etc.]

March 31, 2012I ran the first Taramara Marathon that Caballo organized. We pre-hiked from Urique to Batopilas for two days. Rested. Met the five Taramara racers and started the race on Sunday morning at 7 AM. I trained hard in Colorado on Pikes Peak but they, along with Caballo ran the 28 miles/ 6,000 foot Elev. gain in 5-1/2 hours and I ran it in ten hours. He’s the man! I’m praying for his safe return.
