In a few weeks, the Hobby Joggas are going to hit the road for our latest adventure- a road trip to Rochester, NY to run Shelley Viggiano’s Mind the Ducks 12 hour ultra. The event should be a blast! This year should be even better than last.
We’re bringing more people from Grand Rapids (11 or 12) in addition to meeting several virtual friends for the first time. Just like last year, our crew includes several people running their first ultra. The format for Mind the Ducks is ideal- a half mile loop. Runners have ample access to the aid station, can take breaks as needed, and have no pressure to finish a specific distance.
Of course, a few of us will be trying to achieve some higher miles in a semi-serious fashion. Personally I’m using Mind the Ducks as one of my two last long runs (Pineland Farms 50 miler being the other) to prepare for Western States in June. It wouldn’t surprise me if at least five of our crew puts up 50+ miles.
For anyone that may be interested, I’ll be conducting a barefoot/minimalist shoe clinic at Crossfit 585 in ROchester on Friday at 5:00pm. The gym is located at 22 Winston Place.
