Barefoot-related News and Such: Competitor.com, Merrell Feedback, Free eBook, and Inov-8 News
Some random news:
Competitor.com Article
I recently began writing a four-part series about barefoot running for Compertitor.com. It’s always fun to reach a new audience. Feel free to help out a fellow barefoot runner and share the story far and wide.
Merrell Early Feedback
Merrell released their new shoes to a few local stores. So far, the feedback has been incredible! Many people have been emailing me to confirm my reviews were spot-on. These shoes really will revolutionize the minimalist shoe market. I stand by my prediction that these shoes will replace Vibrams as THE default minimalist shoe.
Free Functional Fitness eBook
My good friend Pete Kemme recently finished his functional fitness ebook. I’ve mentioned Pete before. His workouts were critical to my success in finishing my two 100 milers. Pete included about 80 workouts in his ebook, which is available via Amazon here. Of course, you can get it for FREE by following Pete’s directions on his blog. If you are looking for a unique program that includes a TON of variety, look no further.
Inov-8 News
Inov-8 is one of the companies that is making a splash in the minimalist community. Their X-Talon 190 is the best “extreme traction” shoes I’ve found. Their Bare-grip 200 is due to be released in the near future. Here’s some info I got from them:
Shoc-Zone:ZeroDifferential: 0mmFit: PerformanceSole: Bare-GripCompound: StickyWeight: (US 9) 200g / 7 ozThe freedom and sensation of barefoot running, but the grip of an all conquering off trail shoe. The bare-grip 200 is incredibily light and responsive. Uniquely, the ZERO Arrow Shoc-Zone does not have a midsole, so all the natural power and speed of the foot is transferred directly through the shoe. This is the closest you can get to barefoot running in a harsh off trail environment.

January 18, 2011Jason,
I’ve asked the guys at http://altrarunning.com/ a couple of time to see if they’ve contacted you about testing their new minimalist shoes. Normally they are very responsive on Facebook, but I never received a response about this question. I believe their Adam, Instinct, and Lone Peak would rank right up there as good shoes like Merrell. I would have liked to see Altra’s name mentioned along side Merrell, Vibram, and Terra Plana in the article. Maybe next time.
Keep up the great work in helping us all become better natural form and barefoot runners.
