Book Review: “The Running Life” by Donald Buraglio and Michael Dove
A few months ago, I heard one of my favorite bloggers, Donald Buraglio, was writing a running book. I have followed Donald’s blog for years. His gear recommendations are always spot-on. His running advice was a key ingredient in my early ultramarathon finishes.
Donald teamed with Michael Dove to write “The Running Life“. The book is a collection of their weekly columns from the Monterey Harold. The topics covered in the book are loosely organized by topic. Most deal directly with the many facets of the life of a runner. Some are inspirational, some are comical. Each story provides at least one tidbit of information that can be used by runners ranging from novice to expert.
A few things struck me as I read through the book. First, I want to move to Monterey. The climate, atmosphere, and running community sound awesome! Second, almost every story touched on SOME aspect of my own journey as a runner.
The range of advice and information given in this book make it suitable for pretty much any runner. If you are new, there’s enough information get through your first race. If you’re a veteran, you will find yourself chuckling at the stories reliving your own trials and tribulations.
My favorite story had to be the “Snot Rocket How-To”. As a not-so-dedicated winter runner, this story really spoke to me. It is clear both Donald and Michael are funny guys.

If you’re ever in the market for new running gear, check out Donald’s blog. Odds are good he’s reviewed it.
