New Balance Minimus Roads… a first look

Posted by on Nov 20, 2010 | 4 Comments

First impression upon seeing shoe: Damn!  This is a thick shoe!

First impression upon trying shoe on: Damn!  This is a thick shoe!

First impression after a four mile trail run (hey, I really dislike road running): Hmmmm… that wasn’t bad at all.  No ground feel, but they allowed for good, natural form.

First impression after wearing all day on my feet at school: They felt pretty good; students thought they looked cool (not sure if that’s a positive or not).  The down side- like all shoes, they are hot.

First impression after 12 mile run on roads this morning: Four millimeter heel caused some knee pain after nine miles, but otherwise led to a pleasant run.  Form got pretty bad towards the end without feedback between sole and road.  The smooth, seamless interior worked very well.

Full review coming in early December.

Knee pain… I had that for the first time with my Vibram Trecs on a the second 7 miles of a 7/7 with a 4 hour break in between. Its weird, because it was on my left knee and not my right like I had so long ago that took me out of running. I assume it was because of bad form since I was really tight/tired after the 4 hour break. We will see how this week goes. Fat Ass Friday!

Dang. The minimus line is turning out to be pretty disappointing from what I’m hearing. I’m still hoping that the Wellness turns out to be zero drop (It looks that way). I’m hearing a lot about the Road and Trail versions being upwards of 9 ounces. I’ll take 9 ounce shoes when the altra Instinct comes out (because zero drop is worth it) but not for a shoe with heel lift. If I want that, I’ll stick the the Saucony A4s.

Love all your reviews! They helped me decide to get the VivoBarefoot. Thanks for the discount as well! Don’t know if I would have bought them otherwise. Keep em coming!
